Getting Started

What is WantThis?▼
WantThis is a wishlist and gift list app for birthdays, Christmas, weddings, baby showers — and everyday “I want that” moments. You can save items from any retailer, share your list, and optionally enable price tracking to spot drops.
Do I need an account?▼
If you're creating and managing lists: yes. If you're buying gifts from someone else's list: you can usually browse without an account, and reserve items as a gifter (depending on the list's settings).
Can I use WantThis on my phone?▼
Yes. WantThis works in a normal mobile browser, and you can also install it as an app-like shortcut (PWA) for faster access and easier “Add to WantThis” sharing.

Adding Items

How do I add an item to my list?▼

You have a few easy options:

  1. Paste a product link into WantThis
  2. Share from another app (Safari, Chrome, retailer apps) to “Add to WantThis”
  3. Add manually — useful for services, experiences, or items without a link
Can I add items from Amazon, John Lewis, IKEA, etc.?▼
Yes — WantThis supports links from most online retailers. Some retailers may block automatic price extraction occasionally; if that happens, you can still save the link and add details manually.
Why didn't the price or image load?▼

Some websites restrict automated previews. If the preview fails:

  • Try again in a minute (retailers sometimes rate-limit)
  • Copy a cleaner product URL (avoid shortened links if possible)
  • Add the title/price manually (you can still track the item later if supported)

Sharing Your List

How do I share my list?▼
Open your list and tap Share. You can send the link by text, WhatsApp, email, or anywhere else.
Can I share a list without people editing it?▼
Yes. Shared lists are designed for viewing and buying, not editing your items.
Can I have multiple lists?▼
Yes — create separate lists for different occasions (e.g., “Birthday”, “Christmas”, “House Move”, “Ideas”).

For Gift Buyers

How does reserving work?▼
When you reserve an item, WantThis marks it as reserved for other gift buyers so you don't duplicate gifts.
Will the list owner see who reserved or bought something?▼
WantThis is built to keep gifts a surprise. In typical setups, the owner doesn't see who reserved an item.
Do I buy the gift inside WantThis?▼
Usually you'll click through to the retailer to purchase, then mark it as purchased/reserved in WantThis.

Price Tracking

What is price tracking?▼
Price tracking monitors an item's price over time and can alert you when it drops by a chosen percentage threshold.
How often does WantThis check prices?▼
Checks are scheduled in the background and may run more or less frequently depending on item activity and retailer behaviour. You can also use Check price now when available.
Why can't WantThis track a particular item?▼

Some retailers block automated price checks, or the page may not contain a consistent price. If tracking doesn't work:

  • Try a different product URL (e.g., the “canonical” product page)
  • Ensure the item has a direct retailer link (not a marketplace redirect)
  • Try manual checking (or disable tracking for that item)
Will I get alerts?▼
If alerts are enabled, WantThis can email you when the price drops beyond your chosen threshold. See the Price Tracking guide for full details.

Privacy & Surprises

Does WantThis sell my data?▼
WantThis is designed to be lightweight and privacy-conscious. Your list content is used to provide the service (saving items, sharing lists, tracking prices). If affiliate links are used, the retailer may set their own tracking for commission attribution.
What about affiliate links?▼
Some product links may be converted into affiliate links so WantThis can earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. This helps fund hosting and development.

Troubleshooting

I clicked “Track Price” and nothing happened▼

This is usually caused by:

  • A retailer blocking price extraction temporarily
  • The item URL not being a direct product page
  • A temporary network error

Try: refresh, check again, and if it still fails, edit the item and add a cleaner URL.

I can't log in▼
  • Double-check your email and password
  • Request a new login link (if available)
  • Ensure you don't have a password manager inserting the wrong email
Something looks broken — how do I report it?▼

If something feels off, capture:

  • What you were trying to do
  • The retailer link (if relevant)
  • A screenshot if possible

Then send it to the contact method on the site (or your beta feedback channel).
