Moving on from Basket: where your gift list goes next
Basket has closed. If you used it to keep track of things you wanted, this page explains what we know, how to rescue your saved items while you still can, and what to use instead — including options that are not us.
If you can still open the app, save your links today
This is the one thing worth doing right now, whatever you choose next. Open your list, copy the product links into a note or an email to yourself, and keep them. Users have reported that saved items became inaccessible, so please don't assume the list will still be there in a week. Those links are all you need to rebuild the list anywhere — here or elsewhere.
What actually happened
We track this category every week, and we want to separate what we checked ourselves from what we have only read.
What we verified: on 2 November 2026, trybasket.com serves a single page. Its heading reads “Basket is changing hands.” Underneath: “Thank you for being part of our story.” The rest of the site — the blog, the help pages, everything — is gone.
What we have read but cannot confirm ourselves: a guide published by Moonsift, a rival wishlist app, reports that Basket was discontinued in May 2026 and replaced by an app called WNTD from the same company, that WNTD users were emailed in August 2026 to say there would be no further support or updates, and that WNTD was then removed from the App Store. Moonsift is an interested party here, so treat the detail as a well-informed account rather than an official one. No buyer has been named anywhere public.
Basket was genuinely good at some things — the price alerts worked for a lot of people, and it replied to almost every review it got, including the critical ones. If you are annoyed about losing it, that is fair enough.
Moving your list to WantThis, in three steps
- 1
Create a free list
No card, no trial. Give it a name — "Christmas 2026", "Things I want" — whatever Basket held for you.
- 2
Open the list and choose “Import from a list”
Paste your links in, up to 50 at a time. It takes anything with web addresses in it — a note, an email to yourself, an exported file.
- 3
Check what it found, then confirm
WantThis shows you every link it picked up before adding anything, and flags the ones that are duplicates or are not product pages. Deselect anything you do not want. Nothing is created until you say so.
Rebuilding from scratch because your items have already gone? Paste the links as you find them again — the importer works just as well on five links as on fifty, and you can come back and add more any time.
What you had in Basket, and what replaces it
| What Basket did | On WantThis |
|---|---|
| A wishlist you could add to from any shop | Paste a link from any UK shop and WantThis pulls in the title, image and price |
| Sharing a list with friends and family | One share link or a QR code — gifters need no account at all |
| Friends marking what they had bought | Surprise-safe reservations: gifters reserve items and you never see who took what |
| Gift-card cashback | No cashback. Instead: discount-scheme badges for Blue Light Card, TOTUM, UNiDAYS, Student Beans, Defence Discount Service and Discounts for Carers across 25 UK retailers |
| Virtual try-on | Not offered — WantThis has no try-on feature |
Basket's features are described as they were before it closed. Last reviewed 2 November 2026.
Other apps worth looking at
We would rather you ended up somewhere that fits than somewhere that happens to be us. If what you valued about Basket was something WantThis does not do, these are the honest suggestions:
Moonsift
Closest to Basket for saving and browsing from any shop, with a well-reviewed Chrome extension and price-drop and price-rise alerts. Lighter on gift-specific features — group gifting, Secret Santa and shared lists are not its strength.
Things To Get Me
Free, simple, no ads and no subscriptions, with the best user reviews in the UK category. Worth knowing: it has no price tracking, and some users have asked for a way to share a delivery address without it being shown publicly.
GiftWhale
Another free, UK-built gift list with reservations gifters can make without the owner knowing. Android users get the web app rather than a native one.
And the thing to check before you commit to any of them, us included: can you get your links back out? If the answer is not obviously yes, keep your own copy.
WantThis fits if…
- You are in the UK and shop across several UK retailers.
- You want the list to be shareable, so people can actually buy from it.
- You hold a Blue Light Card, TOTUM, UNiDAYS or similar and want to see where it applies.
Look elsewhere if…
- Virtual try-on was why you used Basket — WantThis has no equivalent.
- Gift-card cashback was the point. WantThis flags membership-scheme discounts instead, which only helps if you hold one of those cards.
- You shop mainly outside the UK — WantThis is built around UK retailers and £ prices.
Rebuild your list in a few minutes
Free, UK-focused, and you can paste your old links straight in.

Has the Basket app really shut down?
Basket’s own website, trybasket.com, now shows a single page headed “Basket is changing hands” with the message “Thank you for being part of our story.” We checked it on 2 November 2026. Beyond that we only have second-hand accounts: a guide published by Moonsift reports that Basket was discontinued in May 2026 and replaced by an app called WNTD from the same company, and that WNTD was later removed from the App Store. No buyer has been named publicly. We would rather tell you what we can verify than guess at the rest.
Can I get my saved items out of Basket?
If you can still open the app and see your items, save them now — copy the product links somewhere safe before anything else changes. Several users have reported that saved items became inaccessible, so do not assume the list will still be there next week. If yours has already gone, you have not done anything wrong and there is probably no way to recover it from outside the company.
How do I move my wishlist to WantThis?
Create a free list, open it, and choose “Import from a list”. Paste in your product links — up to 50 at a time — and WantThis shows you exactly what it found before anything is added, including flagging links that are already on your list or are not product pages. You confirm, and only then are the items created.
Does WantThis do price-drop alerts like Basket did?
Yes. WantThis checks prices on your items across UK retailers and alerts you when one drops. The difference worth knowing is that WantThis shows you the price it actually observed, with the history behind it, rather than an estimate of what you might save.
Does WantThis have cashback or virtual try-on?
No to both, and we would rather be straight about it. Basket offered gift-card cashback and a virtual try-on feature, and WantThis has neither. What WantThis does have is membership-scheme discounts: if you hold a Blue Light Card, TOTUM, UNiDAYS, Student Beans, Defence Discount Service or Discounts for Carers card, WantThis flags the retailers on your list where that card gets you a discount. It is a different mechanism — no gift card to buy first — but it only helps if you hold one of those cards.
Is WantThis free, and will it close too?
WantThis is free — there is no paid tier and gifters buy directly from the retailer, so nothing is skimmed at checkout. We are not going to promise you that no app ever closes; you have just been burned by one. What we can tell you is how to never be stuck again: your items are always plain product links, you can copy them out whenever you like, and you can delete your account and your data from your own settings.
